Trevor Daniel crafts introspective, atmospheric tracks marked by his passionate singing and evocative beats, drawing comparisons to Post Malone and blackbear. Rising during the closing years of the 2010s, this artist from Texas issued several tracks that quickly exceeded one million streams. Although his EP Homesick appeared in 2018, the project only propelled him onto the Billboard 200 the following year thanks to the successful collaboration "Falling" featuring blackbear. His first full-length effort, Nicotine, came out in 2020, succeeded by the EP That Was Then in 2021.

Residing in Houston, Daniel had been a sports participant in high school before shifting focus toward music creation. He acquired his production abilities through online resources provided by what would become his label, Internet Money Records, and shared his work to cultivate listeners via popular releases such as the 2015 track "Fool." As of 2018, cuts like "Pretend" and "Mirror" had amassed more than a million streams each. The intense, trap-influenced "Falling" marked his breakthrough success, accumulating in excess of 70 million streams partly due to a popular remix by blackbear. Included on Homesick from 2018, the EP gradually ascended to the Billboard 200, entering the ranking more than twelve months afterward toward the end of 2019. During that period, he released the synth-driven "Trouble," reminiscent of The Weeknd's style with its 1980s flair, along with the Restless EP. March 2020 saw the arrival of his debut album Nicotine, which featured "Past Life," a track co-penned by Finneas O'Connell. He also appeared on Don Diablo's "Kill Me Better" that year alongside Imanbek. The 2021 EP That Was Then included the popular streaming single "Fingers Crossed" with Julia Michaels. Daniel began 2022 by dropping the track "Story."
