William Schultz entered the world in 1997 and first built a reputation in Los Angeles as a music producer whose online videos demonstrated the construction of beats from arbitrary or eccentric sound sources. Initially working under the name Sueco the Child, the producer began layering his own vocals onto these instrumentals. The 2018 release “Henny in the Trunk” carried an atmospheric tone that suited his understated, mumbled delivery.

In April 2019 he placed the considerably rawer “Fast” on the internet, where it quickly ignited across social platforms. The resulting visibility produced a contract with Atlantic Records and, that June, a remix of the track that added new verses from Offset and A Boogie wit da Hoodie. The eight-song Miscreant project followed later the same year. Over the ensuing period Sueco continued issuing singles at a steady pace, among them “Juice” and “Primadona” in 2020 and, in 2021, “SOS” featuring Travis Barker, “Paralyzed,” and the Illenium and Trippie Redd collaboration “Story of My Life.” Several of these tracks were later gathered on the 2022 full-length It Was Fun While It Lasted, which reached the lower half of the Billboard 200. Additional singles issued that year included “Next Ex,” “Funeral,” and the Southern rock-leaning “Ride It Hard” with country artist Warren Zeiders. Sueco scored another major streaming success in 2023 with “POS.”

Before that point, the spring 2019 breakout of “Fast” had already shifted the former beatmaker into the spotlight. TikTok traction turned the irreverent, subtly humorous midtempo track into a platform phenomenon, generating millions of user videos. The momentum led Atlantic to release his 2019 debut Miscreant, a wide-ranging fusion of alternative styles. After further singles, the 2022 album It Was Fun While It Lasted arrived, and “POS” followed in 2023 as another widely streamed hit.
