Canadian performer Ali Gatie specializes in emotive, womb-like R&B and SoundCloud rap. Breakthrough arrived in 2017 when he won the RhymeStars song contest backed by online digital production marketplace BeatStars. Viral momentum followed a year later with his yearning single "Moonlight," which opened doors to the platinum-selling single "It's You" and the 2020 debut YOU that reached the Top 20 on Billboard's R&B chart. The Idea of Her arrived in 2021 and Who Hurt You? in 2022.

Gatie entered the world in 1997 and spent his formative years in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga, absorbing music from childhood onward. At age 20 he began uploading material and joined forces with producer/beatmakers Shumxi and Phantum. Wider notice came after the 2017 RhymeStars victory, judged by Joe Budden. Several ensuing online releases caught fire, among them the longing R&B ballad "Moonlight" and "I Can't Lie." June 2019 brought the single "It's You," which entered the Top 30 of Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart. Gatie then gathered his earlier tracks into the 2020 album YOU, extending his signature emotionally driven R&B. The project reached Canada's Top 40 and peaked at number 17 on Billboard's Top Hip-Hop/R&B Albums chart.

Early 2020 saw the single "What if I Told You That I Love You" land on the Billboard Hot 100, later joined by a Don Diablo remix. Gatie also teamed with Tate McRae on "Lie to Me." Both cuts appeared on his sophomore album The Idea of Her, released in 2021 and entering the Top Heatseekers chart at number 14. The following year delivered the third LP, the expansive 17-track Who Hurt You?, followed by the standalone track "Scared of Love."
