Trauma

Polish death metal band Trauma maintained an extreme music endeavor through multiple lineups from its mid-'80s origins until well into the 2010s. Their style centered on technical accuracy and inventive guitar work from the outset, generating an array of metal textures that spanned rapid thrash and denser, more brooding sludge, at times within the same track. Despite repeated membership turnover across the years, the group refined its metallic approach on key releases such as Imperfect Like a God in 2003.

Before adopting the Trauma name, the musicians performed as Thanatos. Formed in the Polish city of Elblag in 1986, Thanatos produced several demos ahead of the 1992 name change. The lineup at that stage featured vocalist Jacek Cholewa, guitarist Jarek Misterkiewicz, drummer Arek Sinica, and bassist Wojtek Sukow, who issued their first demo tape, Invisible Reality, in 1993. Their initial studio album, Comedy Is Over, arrived in 1996 yet faced distribution difficulties and appeared only on cassette. A deal with Pagan Records for the follow-up, Daimonion in 1998, brought wider visibility and prompted a reissue of earlier material. The band maintained regular Polish tours and opened the next decade by tracking their third album, Suffocated in Slumber. A large-scale package tour with Vader and Decapitated the subsequent year increased their profile and supplied the recordings for their first live album, Crash Test: Live, issued later that same year. Throughout the 2000s the group sustained activity via initial European tours and the release of notable albums including Imperfect Like a God in 2003, DetermiNation in 2005, and Neurotic Mass in 2007. Entering the following decade, Trauma continued without diminished force, delivering albums at a steady pace alongside nonstop touring and festival appearances. Archetype of Chaos appeared in 2010, while its successor, Karma Obscura, experienced delay from label complications before its eventual release in 2013.
