Biography
Txarrena originated in Pamplona during the closing years of the 1980s as a side venture for Enrique Villarreal, who serves as frontman and bassist for the Spanish hard rock pioneers Barricada. The band's self-titled debut album appeared in 1992 and functioned essentially as a solo effort by the maverick known as "El Drogas," yet after devoting the next nineteen years primarily to his better-known group, he revived the project in 2011. That reactivation brought together a new supergroup configuration that included guitarist Txus Maravi of La Lengua de Trapo, bassist Eugenio Aristu of Flako, and drummer Brigi Duque of Koma. Haritz Wrighy handled production duties on the follow-up release, Azulejo Frío, which came out that same year.
