Led by Ricky Reed, a native of Oakland, California, Wallpaper. blends hip-hop, pop, and dance in an easygoing style that can turn pointed at times. Following EPs issued in 2006 and 2008, the project’s debut full-length, Doodoo Face, arrived in 2009 via Eenie Meenie. Over productions that drew equally from ’80s electro-pop and current mainstream rap, Reed delivered lighthearted, Auto-Tune-treated lines about partying. A comparable approach shaped #STUPiDFACEDD, released on Hype Music in 2011. Among its tracks stood “Fucking Best Song Everr,” one of Reed’s most outlandish and playful numbers to date; Epic licensed the cut and reissued it in 2012, sending it into the Top Ten of Billboard’s club chart. By May 2013 the song’s animated video had amassed nearly four million views on YouTube. Ricky Reed Is Real appeared later that year and included the singles “Good 4 It” and “Drunken Hearts.”
