Alex Sensation has built a reputation as an award-winning radio personality, influential tastemaker, and recording artist. Born Javier Alexander Zalazar in Bogotá, Colombia, he moved to the United States during childhood. By age 16 he had started amassing vinyl, spurred by his older brother’s work as a club DJ, and began landing club dates after misleading venue managers regarding his age. At 17 he was already behind the decks at the renowned Copacabana.

While performing there, Caliente 105.9 FM’s Tony Luna—who would later serve as program director for Amor 93.1 FM—recruited him for weekend mixing duties. Sensation accepted and stayed roughly eighteen months until the station altered its format. Half a year after departing, he joined New York’s leading Latin outlet, La Mega 97.9 FM, as lead mixer for the midday program La Mega Mezcla del Mediodía. He quickly emerged as the station’s most prominent DJ. From that platform he has delivered sets to capacity audiences at Madison Square Garden, Izod Center, Nokia Theater, and the United Palace.

In 2009 Planet Records issued the mix collection Alex Sensation & Friends: La Mega Mezcla, and in 2013 he received an ACE Award from the Association of Latin Entertainment Critics. His performances have since reached audiences in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Canada, Spain, Italy, Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay, and Aruba. September 2015 saw the release of the single “Bailame,” featuring Yandel and Shaggy, on Firma through E-One. The next month he entered a recording agreement with Universal Music Latin Entertainment and teamed with Gente De Zona for “La Mala y la Buena,” which climbed to number 17 on the Hot Latin Songs chart; the following year “Que Va,” featuring Ozuna, matched that position. March 2018 brought “Fantasia” with trap star Bad Bunny to number 34 on the same list, while October’s “La Diabla,” recorded with Nicky Jam, entered at 36. In 2019 he issued “Pa Lant,” a collaboration with Anitta and Luis Fonsi. Sensation continues to share mixes via his widely followed SoundCloud account.
