Australian producer and songwriter Sebastian Ivanov initially launched his music-making alongside twin sister Bec via their electropop outfit Bec & Sebastian. The pair maintained a steady schedule of live shows, which in 2014 took them to the United States for a slot at the Come Out with Pride Festival, where they appeared with performers including Lil' Kim and Lykke Li. Sebastian later stepped forward under the solo alias Alius to highlight his studio productions, fusing electronic beats with a distinctive organic vision for pop. A few independent singles surfaced from him in 2015, leading shortly afterward to a signing with Swedish imprint Ocean Music Group. Ivanov shifted his home base from Melbourne to Stockholm in pursuit of fresh material. His debut release on the label, the 2017 single "Nobody Can Hear You," registered tens of thousands of streams. That groundwork paved the way for "Fraction," a collaboration with vocalist Rasmus Hagen. The emotional ballad exceeded a million streams inside its first four months on the market, elevating Alius' profile as he advanced toward a debut full-length album.
