ATL's quartet—vocalists Tre, Will, and L-Rock joined by rapper Danger—formed after selection through an Atlanta-area talent search. Unlike prior R&B and vocal ensembles such as 112 and Jagged Edge, which entered hip-hop via guest rappers or tracks on outside releases, the group functioned as a self-contained unit fusing R&B, hip-hop, and related styles. The four members recruited R. Kelly to produce their debut single, "Calling All Girls," issued in 2003.
