Biography
Beach Weather craft relaxed, soulful indie pop. Although the band first appeared in 2015, wider notice arrived once "Sex, Drugs, Etc." from the 2016 Chit Chat EP turned viral in 2022. That breakthrough directly enabled their first full-length album, Pineapple Sunrise, issued in 2023; after it reached the Top 40 they promptly delivered the 2024 follow-up Melt.
Beach Weather formed in 2015 around singer/songwriter Nick Santino. A native of Braintree, Massachusetts, Santino had started out making emo-pop as A Rocket to the Moon in 2006. When that act split in 2013 he pursued solo work, issuing several EPs colored by folk and country influences. He assembled Beach Weather in 2015, put out the What a Drag EP, and toured with the Maine. The next year the group supported Sleeping with Sirens on a U.K. run and released Chit Chat; "Sex, Drugs, Etc." appeared on that EP. The band then entered an indefinite hiatus beginning in 2017.
Six years passed before Santino revived Beach Weather with a January 2022 concert. By June, "Sex, Drugs, Etc." had gone viral on social platforms and generated anticipation for new material. The return was signaled by the August 2022 single "Unlovable," the first track taken from the eventual debut album Pineapple Sunrise, which surfaced in March 2023. Besides the already familiar "Sex, Drugs, Etc.," the record yielded further singles such as the title track and "Trouble with This Bed," ultimately peaking inside the Top 40 of Billboard’s Pop 100. Throughout the following year Beach Weather toured extensively behind the album while preparing its successor. The next cycle opened in July 2024 with "High in Low Places," which climbed to number 15 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart. "Hardcore Romance" and "Fake Nice" preceded the October arrival of the sophomore album Melt.
