Biography
Hailing from Orlando, Florida, Before You Exit first appeared toward the close of the 2000s, delivering a direct melodic pop punk and emo approach before shifting in 2014 toward an energetic, heartfelt aesthetic that fused acoustic balladry, emo-pop, and dance-driven electronica.
Established in 2007, the trio spotlights the skills of brothers Riley McDonough on vocals, Connor McDonough handling vocals, guitar, and keyboards, and Toby McDonough also covering vocals, guitar, and keyboards. At the outset the ensemble drew notice through support slots alongside acts such as All Time Low, Olly Murs, and the Vamps. Their initial EPs—A Short Story Long in 2009, Letting Go in 2011, and I Like That from 2013—each favored a rock-leaning pop-punk direction. The 2016 release of their fourth EP, All the Lights, signaled a move into a brighter, electronic-based pop mode that carried forward on later singles including 2017’s “Strangers” and 2018’s “Silence.”
