Emerging in the latter half of the 2010s, American musician Ben Jayne first attracted notice as a producer and songwriter through his work on “New Freezer,” the Rich the Kid collaboration that featured Kendrick Lamar. Once he secured a contract with a major label, he issued his debut single, “Mobbin.”

Raised in Rhode Island by his mother, an art teacher, Jayne began crafting beats at age 12 and moved on to recording complete tracks at home while still a teenager. After finishing high school he relocated to Harlem to focus on music full-time. Connections with local rappers Charles Hamilton and A$AP Ferg opened the door to production opportunities and soon brought him to Rich the Kid. Their meeting yielded “New Freezer,” the platinum-certified single featuring Kendrick Lamar that arrived in September 2017. Jayne promptly signed with Island Records, which launched his own imprint Jayne Arts, and teamed with producer Frans Mernick (A$AP Rocky, Tyler, the Creator) to create “Mobbin.” The hard-hitting cut merged menacing trap with a metal edge and showcased rappers Rokstar Walt, Yung Gleesh, and Kid Wav.
