Biography
Breland channels his wide-ranging musical affinities and genre-spanning songwriting talent into chart-friendly tracks. He first gained industry traction as a promising songwriter before launching his own recording career with the country-rap single “My Truck” in 2020. That track, delivered in a Southern drawl atop a twangy trap beat and celebrating his affection for his vehicle, quickly turned viral. It served as the centerpiece of his debut EP, after which he issued the polished 2021 road-trip single “Cross Country,” a duet with Mickey Guyton that later supplied the title for his first full-length album in 2022. Additional output arrived with the 2024 EP Project 2024.
Born Daniel Breland in 1995 and raised in Burlington, New Jersey, the artist grew up in a household steeped in music, absorbing everything from Prince to Rascal Flatts. Following high-school graduation he attended Georgetown University, where he honed his craft under the influence of songwriters ranging from Stevie Wonder to Justin Bieber. By 2018 he was placing material with major-label acts, writing for R&B singer Ann Marie and rappers including Elhae and YK Osiris.
After moving to Atlanta he concentrated on his own recordings, testing varied beats and production approaches. Atlantic issued his debut single “My Truck” in December 2019, paired with a stylized video; within weeks the country-rap cut had spread virally, climbing charts and amassing millions of streams. The song opened his 2020 Breland EP, which also contained “Hot Sauce” and the Chase Rice and Lauren Alaina collaboration “In the Woulds.” Early 2021 brought the follow-up single “Cross Country,” succeeded by notable joint releases such as “Throw It Back” with Keith Urban and “High Horse” with Nelly and Blanco Brown.
Teaming with Thomas Rhett in early 2022 on the gospel-tinged “Praise the Lord,” Breland reached number 21 on the Billboard Country Songs chart. Subsequent singles “Natural,” the Lady A collaboration “Told You I Could Drink,” and “For What It’s Worth” preceded the September arrival of Cross Country, his debut studio album. An expanded edition appeared in 2023, and in October 2024 he released the six-track Project 2024, maintaining his country-rap approach and featuring the War and Treaty on the closing cut “Same Work.”
