Biography
Cheryl Fortune, a Houston-based singer, songwriter, producer, and arranger, first gained recognition among contemporary gospel audiences in the early 2010s through her contributions to recordings by her then-husband James Fortune. Beyond her ties to James Fortune & FIYA, she worked with artists such as Kirk Franklin, T.D. Jakes, Shirley Caesar, and Zacardi Cortez in the ensuing years. Her signing with the Tyscot label led to the creation of the LuDawn Music sublabel and her official solo debut in September 2017. The track "Fighters," drawn from her experience overcoming domestic abuse, promptly charted on Billboard's Gospel Airplay, paving the way for her debut album, Simply Cheryl.
