Biography
Chloe Kohanski, who performs as chloe mk, first drew widespread notice through her raspy, soulful delivery and yearning electronic textures that she labels "Internet pop," securing the title of season-thirteen champion on The Voice. The 2019 release of her debut EP Fantasy introduced the single "To Be Young."
Born in 1993 and raised in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, she developed an early interest in singing. After completing high school she enrolled at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, intending to complete an English degree, yet soon withdrew to chase music full-time and took employment at a local Starbucks to cover living costs. A subsequent move to Nashville led to regional performances and a successful 2017 audition for The Voice.
She began on Miley Cyrus’s team, suffered a brief elimination, then continued under Blake Shelton. Listeners took note of her confident interpretations of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” Blondie’s “Call Me,” and Kim Carnes’ “Bette Davis Eyes.” Kohanski was crowned winner in December 2017 and issued the coronation single “Wish I Didn’t Love You.”
She signed with Republic Records and issued the 2018 single “Come This Far.” Rather than rush a project to capitalize on the victory, she spent time shaping her sound and adopted the stage name chloe mk to separate her artistic identity from the show. Fantasy arrived in July 2019, featuring “To Be Young,” as she leaned further into a contemporary electronic aesthetic.
