Biography
Barry Blaze, who previously performed under the surname Blazs, has fronted and sung lead for Code of Ethics on four dance-pop gospel albums, each assembled with an entirely new supporting cast. Early on he shared a band with DC Talk’s Kevin Smith, yet he launched the Code of Ethics project in the early 1990s together with Eric Switzer. That initial duo delivered Visual Paradox on R.E.X. Music in 1991, landed a contract with Forefront Records, and then lost Switzer shortly afterward. Rick Brainer and Scot Kifer stepped in to complete the self-titled sophomore release of 1993, but Kifer exited before the close of that year. Bassist Jeff Anderson replaced him for the 1995 album Arms Around the World, a configuration that dissolved early the following year. In 1996 Blaze enlisted Charles Garrett, Jerry Mowrey, and Brian Carlson; the resulting trio cut Soulbait, issued in 1997. By 1998 the final lineup consisted of Scott “Skippy” Chapman and Rick Brainer, and the group performed its last concert in October 2000. Code of Ethics also issued the 1992 remix collection Mix, containing reworkings by Blaze and Ian Eskelin of material first heard on Visual Paradox.
