Biography
Craig Wayne Boyd, the Texas-born country singer and multi-instrumentalist, first reached a broad audience in 2014 as a contestant who ultimately claimed victory on season seven of The Voice. An early passion for music surfaced during his childhood in the Dallas suburb of Mesquite, where gospel and country sounds drew him in and led him to join his church choir, later rising to serve as its director. He headed to Nashville in the early 2000s chasing a professional break and soon secured a publishing arrangement with EMI, with initial signs pointing toward success. After a decade of writing songs, playing local shows, touring behind national artists, and pursuing every available route to advance his career, however, financial strains and other obstacles pushed him to the brink of walking away from music. His audition for that seventh season of The Voice reversed the outlook. Placed on Blake Shelton’s team, Boyd’s vocal delivery, instrumental command, and fluid versatility quickly won over viewers and carried him to the overall win. He began developing an album and issued the single “I’m Still Here,” yet the full project never appeared. A few years later he teamed with producer Will Edwards to create Top Shelf, released by Copperline Music Group in October 2017.
