Biography
Cruza craft a hazy, blurred fusion of experimental R&B and alt-rock that engages both intellect and physical response. Formed in Orlando, the group issued their initial commercial tracks during 2018, which paved the way for the EPs Cult Research in 2020 and Dog Daze in 2021. The characteristically hallucinatory single “Seltzer” announced their signing to Def Jam in 2022; that deal yielded the four-track Paranoia Pack EP the following year along with further singles that built toward the band’s debut album, Cruzafied, released in 2024.
At the center of the project stand multi-instrumentalist and producer AJ Roth alongside vocalist Adam Kain, childhood friends from Alabama. After establishing Cruza in Orlando with the 2018 tracks “A Summertime Horror” and “Arcadian Breeze,” the pair gained momentum once Urban Outfitters added one of their uploads to a playlist. Guitarist Charity Joy Brown, originally from San Diego, came aboard in early 2020, after which drummer Sago from Maryland completed the quartet. That August the band delivered the seven-song Cult Research EP, followed in December by the similarly sized Dog Daze, which appeared on Terrible Records. In 2022 they contributed to Smino’s “Louphoria,” then returned via Def Jam with “Seltzer” and “Fantasy”; 2023 brought the Paranoia Pack, led by the track “Hypnotherapy.” Early 2024 saw the successive releases “Lover’s Rock,” “Supa Anxious,” and “Such Is Love,” heightening expectations for the June arrival of the psychedelic full-length Cruzafied.
