Biography
New York electronic production outfit Disco Fries built a reputation through wide-ranging house productions and reworkings of other artists’ material. Their profile rose sharply in 2013 after teaming with Tiësto on the track “iTrance.” Operating their own Liftoff Recordings imprint, the pair issued numerous singles plus the Autonomous EP in 2015 and the DF EP in 2017.
The project began in 2009, taking its name from the Canadian dish of fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. Virginia native Danny Boselovic and New Jersey native Nick Ditri first connected years earlier as freshman roommates at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Their early sessions fused Ditri’s affinity for hip-hop and club sounds with Boselovic’s admiration for Radiohead, Air, and Kraftwerk. After graduation they settled in New York City, uploading material that quickly drew notice through remixes for Flo Rida, Cobra Starship, Avicii, and Neon Hitch. Their own cuts soon appeared, among them “Killer” alongside Clinton Sparks, “Bad Boy” with Tommie Sunshine and Loopers, and “Open Your Eyes (Revelation).” Tiësto took note in 2013, resulting in the joint release “iTrance,” which surpassed 50,000 streams. That same year the duo started Liftoff Recordings and earned a spot on Vibe’s list of “30 DJs to Watch.” In 2014 they supplied two gold-certified tracks to Tiësto’s album A Town Called Paradise: “Wasted” featuring Matthew Koma and “Shimmer” featuring Christian Burns.
Autonomous, their first EP, arrived in 2015 and spotlighted “Head in the Clouds” with 311’s Nick Hexum along with appearances by Breathe Carolina, Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida, and Hope Murphy. The follow-up EP, DF, surfaced in 2017 and featured Jared Lee, Great Good Fine OK, Daisy Guttridge, and additional guests; that year they also delivered a remix of Selena Gomez’s “Fetish.” Their take on “U Make Me” with Zack Martino was issued in 2018. The next year “Concrete Heart,” a collaboration with Vassy, reached the top of Billboard’s Dance Music Charts. They joined Tritonal on tour and released “Family Affair” during the same period. Further singles emerged in 2020, including “Anybody” and “Believer” with Giiants.
