Biography
A Canadian alt-rock singer/songwriter whose sound leans sultry and dark-hued, Dylyn achieved sudden viral traction in 2018 via "Secret," a brooding track recounting a child's perspective on her parents' divorce. Her debut EP combined modern pop production with gritty bangers to deliver further impact, after which she issued two additional singles in the same vein during 2020.
Formerly an electro-pop artist who scored several dance-chart successes under the moniker Guinevere, Toronto native Gwendolyn Lewis found her enthusiasm for electronic music diminishing. She incorporated a live drummer into her performances, resumed guitar-based songwriting rooted in her longstanding affinity for rock & roll, and by 2017 had retired the Guinevere identity entirely in favor of the Dylyn nickname, signaling a shift toward a more organic rock-and-pop direction. Although "Secret" first appeared in 2017, the track only surged in popularity the next year following the arrival of her debut EP, Sauvignon and a Kimono, accumulating millions of streams and attracting an unexpectedly sizable audience within the anime community. New material took shape through sessions with L.A.-based Toronto expat Colin Munroe (Kendrick Lamar, Lights) and fellow Canadian Ryan Guldemond (Mother Mother), yielding the sleek and punchy "Something to Lose" alongside the riffy "Call Me What You Want" upon her 2020 return.
