Biography
Evergreen Terrace forges a ferocious hybrid of metal’s aggression and punk rock’s raw urgency, forging a singular hardcore sound all their own. The Jacksonville, Florida, quintet assembled in 1999 with Andrew Carey handling vocals, Craig Chaney contributing guitar and vocals, Joshua James on guitar, Jason Southwell on bass, and Christopher Brown behind the drums. Within months the group issued its debut demo EP, Broken, which quickly stirred attention throughout the regional scene. The following year the band self-released a second EP, a split effort with Cordelle, then embarked on its inaugural U.S. trek supporting Third Root.
In 2001 the musicians tracked and unveiled their first full-length album, Losing All Hope Is Freedom. Their sophomore effort, Burned Alive by Time, arrived late the next year via Eulogy, followed in spring 2003 by a split release with Xone FifthX on Indianola. Early 2004 brought the covers collection Writer’s Block, on which the band reinterpreted material from Operation Ivy, Tears for Fears, U2, and Smashing Pumpkins. Later that same year the retrospective At Our Worst gathered early demos alongside assorted live recordings. June 2005 saw the arrival of the screamo-inflected Sincerity Is an Easy Disguise in This Business; that year also marked the addition of drummer Kyle Mims, formerly of Love Is Red.
Portions of summer 2006 were spent on the Sounds of the Underground package alongside Terror, GWAR, In Flames, and As I Lay Dying, after which the group toured that fall with Throwdown and Zao. The accumulated momentum led to a Metal Blade contract in early 2007, which issued Wolfbiker that summer. Metal Blade also released the band’s fifth studio album, Almost Home, in 2009.
