In 2000, the Belgian indie pop group Girls in Hawaii came together, centered on the skills of brothers Antoine and Denis Wielemans, Lionel and Brice Vancauwenberghe, and their associates Christophe Léonard and Daniel Offerman. French critics likened the band's intoxicating mix of neo-psychedelic pop and alternative rock to the sounds of Grandaddy, the Flaming Lips, and Blonde Redhead, leading to a deal with Brussels-based 62TV Records in 2002. The outfit issued Found in the Ground: The Winter EP along with the album From Here to There during 2003, with Plan Your Escape arriving five years later.
