Biography
Formed in 1999, the Belgian rock outfit Ghinzu took its name from a familiar brand of knives marketed on television infomercials for their capacity to slice through cans. Remaining on the independent imprint Dragoon allowed the band to bypass contractual hurdles when issuing its debut album, Electronic Jacuzzi, in 2000, an effort that received a 2004 reissue containing a revised track sequence. Two standout live performances, paired with the international release of the 2004 follow-up Blow beyond La Belgique, helped Ghinzu attract attention across the central European pop landscape and ultimately secure an opening slot on the Stooges’ 2005 reunion dates. Entering the studio in 2008, the group began work on its third full-length while continuing efforts to expand its hold on Belgian rock.
