In Dying Arms

In Dying Arms fuse turbulent sonic reflections on brutality with sporadic stretches of unguarded emotional candor, their bipolar deathcore pushing the outer limits of both feeling and texture. Formed in Baltimore, Maryland, the intense five-piece launched in 2006 and navigated early instability before locking in vocalist Orion Stephens, guitarists Jeremy Magee and John Myers, bassist Terence Bright, and drummer Alvin Richardson. Their approach merges post-hardcore’s fervent drive with deathcore’s precise, ferocious force, letting anguished and atmospheric guitar passages distinguish the group while fostering genuine dialogue between the two styles and lending the material unusual dimension. The band issued its first recording, the EP This Is Retaliation, in 2009, then joined Matchless Records—the imprint run by Chelsea Grin’s Chris Kilbourn—the next year, releasing its debut full-length Deprivation shortly afterward. Returning quickly to the studio, In Dying Arms delivered its self-titled second album in 2011. In 2012 the group moved to Artery Recordings, which released the third album Boundaries before year’s end.
