Biography
Jor'dan Armstrong, who calls himself the "King of Christian R&B," creates contemporary gospel that aligns closely with mainstream R&B. The Baton Rouge native first entered the business by penning secular songs behind the scenes. Beginning in 2009 he assembled a catalog whose Billboard-charting highlights include the 2016 project Confident and the 2018 release Blsd; these were followed in 2022 by the relationship-focused full-length Church Girls Love R&B, which arrived after the standalone single "My God" reached the top of the Gospel Airplay Chart. Certain tracks, among them the 2024 single "Another Blessing," he produced himself.
Raised in Baton Rouge, Armstrong grew up inside the church and has remained immersed in music from childhood onward. Equally at home as a singer, songwriter, percussionist, and producer, he launched his career in secular circles, lending his skills to Hamilton Park and Adrian Marcel before veterans such as Tyrese and Johnny Gill began requesting his input. Once he stepped forward as a recording artist he confined himself to contemporary gospel, issuing his first independent album, Champion, in 2009. He then kept to a three-year cycle with Stronger (2012) and 52 Weeks of Summer (2015). The Confident EP of 2016 marked his initial appearance on Billboard’s gospel albums chart. Vibes and Blsd—later expanded into a deluxe edition—appeared as further EPs by 2018. In the ensuing years he favored sporadic singles; “My God” gave him a gospel airplay number-one in 2021, while “You,” drawn from Church Girls Love R&B, and the standalone collaboration “Call” with Erica Campbell also registered on the charts. Merry Christmas arrived in 2023, pairing four new songs with instrumental and a cappella counterparts, and the introspective “Another Blessing” followed the next year.
