Biography
Hailing from Mexico, the bilingual pop performer and actor Jorge Blanco gained worldwide recognition through his portrayal of León Vargas in the Disney Channel series Violetta. Prior to securing that part in 2012, he had already drawn attention in his home country by competing on High School Musical, la Selección, a contest aimed at filling a lead role in the Argentine edition of the High School Musical movie. Although he fell short of victory, Disney Channel Latinoamérica still cast him as Jorge in its 2008 theatrical release High School Musical: El Desafío, released elsewhere as Viva High School Musical. From 2011 to 2012 he also appeared regularly on the Disney musical comedy Cuando Toca la Campana before transitioning to Violetta.
The storyline followed a teenage musician who moves back to Buenos Aires after time spent in Europe, and Blanco shared the screen with Martina Stoessel’s title character across all three seasons. During the run he contributed to several associated soundtrack projects, among them the 2012 collection Violetta [Original Soundtrack] and the 2013 album Violetta: Cantar es Lo Que Soy. The series concluded with its final episode in February 2015, after which a concert tour visited four continents and sold more than a million tickets. Drawing on Stoessel’s autobiography, the feature Tini: The Movie, also titled Tini - El Gran Cambio de Violetta, reached cinemas in 2016; Blanco appeared both in the film and on its accompanying soundtrack, issued together with Stoessel’s first solo album, Tini (Martina Stoessel).
Afterward Blanco settled in Los Angeles, California, and joined the roster of Disney’s Hollywood Records, which issued his debut solo single, “Risky Business,” in March 2017. Later that year he released the additional track “Summer Soul” ahead of the season.
