Following multiple early setbacks, vocalist Luciana reached mainstream audiences through a string of featured turns on major dance tracks from the mid-noughties. Born Luciana Caporoso in London in 1977, she first drew notice in 1994 with a role on the television crime series Anna Lee, for which she also supplied the theme “Sister Sister.” At 18 she secured a contract with Chrysalis Records, yet poor sales of the singles “Get It Up for Love,” “One More River,” and “If You Want” led to her release from the label. Stepping in for Jayni Hoy, she formed the pop duo Crush alongside former colleague Donna Air; their self-titled album enjoyed brief popularity across the Far East. Additional guest spots on recordings by Definitive and Tomoki Hirata preceded her tenures as frontwoman for Shooter, whose track “Life’s a Bitch” appeared on the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack, and for Portobella, which disbanded after “Covered in Punk” failed to register on the charts. Mainstream visibility arrived when she supplied vocals for Bodyrox’s number-two single “Yeah Yeah,” followed by contributions to Super Mal’s “Bigger Than Big,” Taio Cruz’s “Come On Girl,” and Lethal Bizzle’s “Go Go Go.” The 2008 compilation Featuring Luciana collected these collaborations and added cuts with Michael Gray and Kurtis Mantronik. Luciana also co-wrote “Cupid Boy” for Kylie Minogue’s Aphrodite album and maintains active pursuits in photography, visual art, and fashion design.
