Biography
Luh Kel, a vocalist and MC shaped by the styles of Tank, Usher, and Chris Brown, first appeared on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2019 via the platinum-certified heartbreak track “Wrong.” Later that same year he released his debut album Mixed Emotions, whose follow-up singles “BRB” and “Pull Up” each earned gold status. His 2020 sophomore set L.O.V.E. spotlighted the early standout “Y.O.U.” alongside a guest spot from Queen Naija, while the 2023 mixtape Head Melodies included A Boogie wit da Hoodie on its title cut.
Born Turran Coleman and raised in St. Louis, Kel began performing as a toddler. During his early teenage years he became a member of the vocal ensemble ProjecX, which toured nationally and issued the independently released single “Problems” in 2016. He soon shifted focus to a solo career, building visibility through social media. A short clip of “Wrong” posted to Instagram in early 2019 went viral and gained further traction after sparking a dance challenge on TikTok, prompting a signing with Cinematic Music Group. By late April a commercial version of “Wrong” had entered the R&B/hip-hop chart’s Top 40, followed within eight weeks by the second single “BRB.” Both songs, together with the third certified single “Pull Up,” were featured on Mixed Emotions, which also contained guest appearances by PnB Rock on “Movie” and Jay Gwuapo on “Gone.” October 2020 brought the arrival of L.O.V.E., whose open-hearted tracks “Y.O.U.” and the Queen Naija collaboration “Want You” quickly ranked among Kel’s most-streamed recordings. He returned in 2023 with the assertive mixtape Head Melodies, again teaming only with A Boogie wit da Hoodie.
