Biography
The electronic dance trio LuvBug came together in April 2013, uniting Marvin Humes of JLS, Scott Wild under his alias the White N3rd, and Jon Kay as JKAY. Humes and Kay had shared a childhood in Woolwich, South East London, whereas Wild grew up in Manchester. Kay belonged to the songwriting and production duo Tracklacers, which had created tracks for JLS during Humes’s tenure with the group, while Wild had worked as a producer in sessions alongside Max Martin and Ali Tennant. The three began collaborating after Tennant connected Wild with Humes, and the introduction convinced Wild that the partnership would prove advantageous. Drawing from classic U.K. garage as well as funky and deep house, they first concentrated on remixes for Inner City, Leah McFall & will.i.am, and Case & Foxy Brown. Following their signing with Polydor in early 2014, the group shifted focus to original material. Their debut single, “Resonance,” arrived in October 2014 with vocalist Talay Riley and peaked at number 13 on the U.K. singles chart, marking them as an emerging U.K. deep house production outfit. The follow-up “Revive (Say Something)” appeared the next February, securing another Top 20 U.K. hit while they completed work on their first album.
