Manolo Rose, a Brooklyn-born MC and rap producer, first drew notice for his biting, irreverent rhymes and rapid, intense productions. During his formative years he absorbed a wide range of sounds stretching from Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., and Kiss to John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, and assorted punk bands, an exposure that prompted him to start writing his own material and commit to a music career. His initial breakthrough came when he supplied the beat for “Dope Man” to fellow New York rapper Troy Ave, who turned it into the track “All About the Money,” after which Rose issued his own cut “Run Ricky Run.” That release highlighted his compositional skill and connected with local hip-hop listeners through its raw, confrontational edge. The song anchored his 2015 debut mixtape Concrete Rose, which also featured the singles “Gun Fu” and “Super Flexin,” guest appearances from Stoney tha Dealer, Dave East, and Keith Ape, and additional production by Fame School Slim. Throughout 2016 he focused on material for his next project, emerging in 2017 with the singles “Ball Drop” and “Pink Fur.”
