Mariano Barba stands out as a decorated vocalist, composer, and studio craftsman specializing in Mexican Regional Music. His resonant baritone alongside inventive charts and arrangements quickly drew substantial followings throughout Latin America. Although the 2002 debut album Me Gusta La Banda first placed him on Mexican radio, the 2005 release Una Noche Mas Contigo achieved breakthrough success and earned silver certification. The 2006 single "Aliado del Tiempo" held a Top Ten position for six weeks, secured the Billboard Music Award for Latin Song of the Year in 2007, and later attained gold status. Later projects such as 2008's Nuestro Punto G and 2010's Sigo Siendo el Primero expanded his international radio presence, while Aqui Estoy mixed original material with renditions of popular and traditional standards. The 2013 album Con Amor Para Mi Gente centered on romantic themes. In 2016 his back catalog received remastering and digital re-release as he prepared the 2017 set Nuestro Amor en Secreto, followed by the appearance of Nunca Voy a Olvidarte in 2020.

Francisco Méndez Barba entered the world in Tepatitlán, Jalisco. From age eight he developed a deep fixation on music through his parents' collection of classic Mexican styles—ranchera, mariachi, grupero, Duranguense, and banda. He taught himself guitar by studying those recordings, and by high school he had become a skilled player who also wrote original songs. After graduation he performed his own material in cantinas, restaurants, and truck stops.

The independently released 2002 single "El Mono de Alambre" earned regional airplay. Though the debut album Me Gusta La Banda moved modest numbers, its blend of traditional and contemporary sounds drew notice from DJs and programmers, leading to a contract with Three Sound Records. The label supported his 2003 follow-up De Parranda Con..., which contrasted his originals with classic covers and surpassed sales projections. Regional touring preceded the breakthrough 2005 album Una Noche Mas Contigo, which sold over 10,000 units for silver certification and reached listeners from Tijuana to Mexico City.

That momentum propelled the 2006 single "Aliado del Tiempo" to a peak of number six and six weeks in the Top Ten on the Mexican Regional Songs chart, where it also achieved gold certification. The accompanying album received widespread airplay across Latin and North America. At the 2007 Billboard Music Awards the single and album claimed Latin Song of the Year and Best Regional Mexican Album, while Barba additionally received Male Artist of the Year; he further collected Premio Nuestro, Equinox, and Ke Buena honors. The sold-out trek across Mexico, Los Angeles, New York City, and Texas was captured on the live album En Vivo, which reached number three on the Mexican Regional albums chart.

Nuestro Punto G in 2008 reinforced Barba's standing among Mexico's leading vocalists and emerging talents, extending his reach to Caribbean and South American stations and multiplying touring options. The 2011 banda-and-ranchera collection Sigo Siendo el Primero performed steadily at radio despite modest chart impact, with its title track appearing on download rankings and later emerging as one of his strongest streaming performers. He issued the 2011 Skalona one-off Aqui Estoy, then repurposed several tracks for the 2013 romantic set Con Amor Para Mi Gente. While maintaining an active touring schedule, his former and current labels issued compilations such as Corazon Ranchero, 21 Los Exitos de Mariano Barba, and Exitos de Mariano Barba.

In January 2016, Barba and ROHI issued the charting studio album Un Exitos con Alma de Triunfador alongside remastered catalog reissues for streaming platforms, supporting a national tour. Nuestro Amor en Secreto and Inevitable arrived in 2017, separated by an international trek. The 2020 release Guerrero de Poder presented a stripped-down traditional approach limited to guitar and tuba. Traigo Ganas followed as a full-band set of originals featuring expansive arrangements and varied tempos, while the genre-blending EP Estoy Feo Pero Estoy de Moda contained uptempo banda hybrids including "Rock and Roll Ranchero" and "Con Whisky."
