The moniker DJ Mario Lopez identifies German Thomas Schatz, not the actor who rose to prominence through a lead part on the television series Saved By the Bell. Schatz adopted the alias after beginning to perform in Hannover’s club scene, where he hoped to cover the costs of his own audio gear and vinyl purchases. Working with producer Sascha Graune, he issued his debut single “It’s Not Over” in 1997, which was soon followed by “Fantasy.” In 1998 Thomas Schatz began presenting himself as DJ Silencer and released the single “Birthday Party” that same year. “The Sound of Nature” appeared in 1999 and contained remixes by Kaylab, Plug’n’Play, Lightforce, and Mark VanLinden, while his album Mother Earth received a local release in October 2000.
