Drawing their moniker from Naberus, the shrewd three-headed canine demon rooted in the Greek figure Cerberus, the Melbourne, Australia quintet blends death metal, thrash, melodic hardcore, and progressive groove metal. The group came together in 2009 with James Ash handling vocals, Dan Ralph and Dante Thompson on guitar, Jordan Mitchell on bass, and Chris Sheppard behind the drums. Their 2010 demo, Ruins of Society, reached producer Ermin Hamidovic—known for work with Architects, Periphery, and Devin Townsend—who then oversaw the band’s first EP, The Fallen, released in 2011. Festival slots and shared bills with like-minded acts such as Soilwork raised their profile, leading to the 2016 arrival of their full-length debut, The Lost Reveries, issued on Eclipse Records and again produced by Hamidovic. For the follow-up, Hollow, the band turned to Henrik Udd—whose credits include Bring Me the Horizon, Architects, and A Breach of Silence—to complete the record, which surfaced in 2018.
