The indie rock outfit Nightmare & the Cat, which traces its roots to London yet operates out of Los Angeles, came together in 2010 under brothers Django and Samuel Stewart. The pair are the offspring of Eurythmics founding member Dave Stewart and Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey. Following years of activity in assorted L.A. projects, the siblings added vocalist/guitarist Claire Acey, bassist Scott Henson, and drummer Spike Phillips to complete the group. Their audience expanded rapidly through YouTube clips that showcased both cover songs and acoustic takes on their own compositions. Capitol Records signed the band in 2013, prompting the prompt release of the debut Simple EP. After extensive touring throughout the States, Nightmare & the Cat performed their track “Undercover” on Late Show with David Letterman in May 2014, several months before the arrival of their first full-length album, likewise titled Simple, which appeared in July 2014.
