Houston rapper OMB Bloodbath crafts songs that merge restrained beats with intricate narrative rhymes. She launched her career as a fully independent creator who handled the release and distribution of her own mixtapes until rising interest prompted a deal with Love Renaissance, the Interscope imprint behind her 2021 EP Blood Sample.

Born Alexandra Nicks in 1993, she began composing original material by age nine. Early influences included Lauryn Hill and Cal Wayne, and she continued developing her craft through high school before establishing her voice around 2016. That year she entered an online video contest in which R&B singer Monica invited up-and-coming MCs to record original verses over the track “So Gone.” Her submission ranked among the contest’s most popular entries and surfaced alongside her debut single “Shootston,” which was also gaining traction. In 2017 she started a run of mixtapes modeled on Lil Wayne’s No Ceilings series, placing new freestyle verses over well-known beats. The sequence opened with Nothing but the Moon that same year, followed by Nothing but the Moon 2 in 2018 and, in 2019, both Nothing but the Moon 3 and A Few Forevers.

OMB Bloodbath joined forces with Love Renaissance again in 2020 for the single “Dropout,” which featured Maxo Kream and became one of her strongest-received releases to date. She quickly issued the follow-up single “Don’t Do It” in 2021 along with the five-song EP Blood Sample, whose highlight “Not Gang” included a guest verse from EST Gee.
