Biography
The German/Netherlands trio Passion Fruit took its name from the tropical fruit known for its refreshing aroma and intense flavor. The group entered the local scene in June 1999 with the Top Ten dance-pop single "The Rigga Ding Dong Song." Later releases included "Sun Fun Baby" in 2000 and "Bongo One" in 2001.
Crossair flight LX 3597, traveling from Berlin to Zurich, went down in woodlands four miles short of the runway near Bassersdorf on November 24, 2001. Among those on board were the members of Passion Fruit along with Melanie Thornton, vocalist of La Bouche. Maria Serrano-Serrano and Nathaly van het Ende lost their lives, while Debby St. Marteen sustained serious injuries. The following month, Passion Fruit's management chose to direct all proceeds from the single "I'm Dreaming Of...A Winter Wonderland" toward the victims and survivors of the accident.
