Dutch producer Prince Peration, born Remy de Groot, launched the European dance-pop outfit T-Spoon in 1993. Though the initial concept called for rotating vocalists across projects, the single “No Time to Waste” proved so popular across the continent that the featured rapper Shamrock stayed in the lineup for five years. A string of Dutch Top Ten hits—“Take Me 2 the Limit,” “Where R U Now,” and “Mercedes Benz”—came next, leading to the October 1994 release of the debut album Joy, Life and Pain. Lexicon of Melody arrived two years later, and 1997 brought the group’s strongest chart showing yet with “Sex on the Beach.” Shamrock departed in 1998 and was succeeded by U.S.-born rapper Greg Dillard, who appeared with vocalist Linda Estelle on the self-titled American debut album issued in 1999.
