Country singer and songwriter Randy Montana entered the industry with a notable lineage. Born on September 25, 1985, in Albany, New York, he is the son of Billy Montana, a singer and songwriter whose compositions reached the top of the charts for Garth Brooks, Sara Evans, and Jo Dee Messina. The family relocated to Nashville in 1988 after Billy secured a recording contract with Warner Bros., allowing the younger Montana to immerse himself in the local music environment by accompanying his father to performances and absorbing the operational details of the business. Montana took up the guitar at age 10, began composing songs at 16, and made his first public appearance at 17 during one of Billy’s writers’ nights. A standout high school athlete, he secured a football scholarship for college but chose soccer upon enrolling at Nashville’s Trevecca Nazarene University before transferring to Middle Tennessee State University. While there, he performed with the band Homestead at fraternity parties and bars around town. Ultimately, music prevailed over academics, prompting him to withdraw from school, take various jobs, and concentrate on songwriting in pursuit of a publishing agreement. That goal materialized in 2008 with a signing to Sony Music Publishing, after which his material drew the interest of Joe Fisher at Universal Music Group Nashville. Montana then secured a recording contract with Mercury Nashville, an imprint of Universal Music Group Nashville, which issued the single “Ain’t Much Left of Lovin’ You” ahead of his self-titled debut album that arrived in 2011.
