Formed as a West Coast power trio in Los Angeles, California in 2016, Red Devil Vortex fuses hard rock, post-grunge, and alternative metal into what they call "chaotic music to make love and war to," although the outfit traces its origins to South America. Vocalist and bassist Gabriel Connor and guitarist/vocalist Pablo Kravicz, who list Kiss, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, and Muse among their influences, had previously spent more than a decade in the independent Brazilian hard rock and heavy metal band Livin Garden, which put out the studio albums Where I Can Breathe in 2009 and Bring It On in 2014 before splitting up in 2015. After the move to Los Angeles and the addition of drummer Iago Marcondes, the newly christened Red Devil Vortex released its debut single "The Fallen" and began building a following in the Southern California heavy music circuit by sharing stages with Uli Jon Roth, Dayshell, Saliva, and I Am Morbid. In 2017 the group worked with producer and songwriter Augustus Cryns, whose past projects include Butcher Babies, Anti-Flag, and Westfield Massacre, to record what became their first EP, Something Has to Die, issued the following May.
