Biography
Creators Emily Lazar and Top Cow Comics founder Marc Silvestri present September Mourning as a "transmedia dark culture project," one that weaves an elaborate story across multiple formats about a human-reaper hybrid named September, portrayed by Lazar, as she moves between the realms of the living and the deceased. The saga reaches audiences through recorded music, comic books, live concerts, and online webisodes, beginning with the 2011 release of Melancholia, a complete set of early demos. The follow-up single "Before the Fall" arrived in 2012 and steered the endeavor toward a more commercial electro-goth metal sound, leading to a 2013 recording contract with Virgin Records. Late 2014 brought the Howard Benson-produced track "Children of Fate," followed in 2015 by a self-titled EP paired with the comic A Murder of Reapers, which had been backed through a 2014 Kickstarter effort. The hard rock/graphic novel venture then delivered its first official full-length album, Volume II, in 2016.
