Formed in 2011 in Orange County, California, the hard-hitting melodic post-hardcore outfit Speaking the King's coalesced around guitarists Justin Bock and Mike Entin, bassist Brad Reihl, and drummer Will Peacock. Influences from acts such as Of Mice & Men and We Came as Romans shaped early demos that eventually reached A Day to Remember producer Tom Denney, prompting him to summon the fledgling ensemble to his Florida studio for initial recordings. At that point the group enlisted vocalist Bobby Burap, a veteran frontman skilled in both clean and screamed deliveries, and laid the groundwork for the 2013 EP Here to Stay, issued through Nuclear Blast. Their debut full-length album, Carousel, produced by Steve Evetts, arrived two years later.
