Such Gold, a Rochester, New York quartet anchored in classic hardcore traditions and relentless road work, inject extra force and conviction into melodic hardcore. Ben Kotin, Nate Derby, Skylar Sarkis, and Devan Bentley formed the group with the straightforward aim of creating the music they had always cherished and connecting with listeners through the time-tested practice of constant touring. The band layers melody over the old-school hardcore template, preserving its velocity while introducing emotional resonance that reaches past mere anger. Following a pair of EPs and inclusion on Alternative Press’ 100 Bands You Need to Know list in 2012, Such Gold drew interest from Razor & Tie, which signed the band and issued its first full-length, Misadventures, that same year; the album climbed to number six on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums and Vinyl Albums charts. By the release of the 2014 follow-up The New Sidewalk, the lineup had shifted, with singer-guitarist Ben Kotin and guitarist Nate Derby now joined by bassist Jon Markson and drummer Matt Covey. The album returned the group to the Heatseekers chart at number 38. Such Gold later moved to Bird Attack Records for the 2017 EP Deep in a Hole.
