After establishing herself as a key figure in the Brill Building era but prior to her rise as a major star in the early 1970s, Carole King participated in a single album project with the City. This group featured King handling piano and vocals alongside Danny Kortchmar, who contributed guitar and vocals, as well as bassist Charles Larkey, whom she would later marry, while Jim Gordon provided drums on the sessions. Released in 1968 under the title Now That Everything's Been Said, the record was helmed by producer Lou Adler and included tracks that King co-authored with collaborators such as Gerry Goffin, Toni Stern, and Don Palmer. It stands as one of the most intriguing and satisfying side ventures in her body of work. Despite its qualities, the album failed to make an impact owing to issues with the record label and King's own hesitation toward live performances, leading to the group's dissolution. Nevertheless, both Kortchmar and Larkey continued playing in her backing band during the creation of her acclaimed 1971 release Tapestry and remained involved for subsequent years.
