L.A. pop/rock quartet the Tide originated as a support act assembled for the Vamps’ 2015 world tour, yet quickly built a following of their own. Every member joined after an online search: guitarist and lead singer Austin Corini, born in Los Angeles, had appeared on the 2012 season of American X Factor both alone and later as part of Playback; fellow guitarist Drew Dirksen and drummer Nate Parker, both Ohio natives, had previously performed together in All the Above; and bassist Levi Jones, who grew up in Pennsylvania, first attracted notice by uploading solo covers and tracks with Almost Adults to YouTube. Echoing the Vamps, the quartet favored a tougher take on boy-band pop, handling their own instruments and contributing to songwriting. They first reached listeners through YouTube clips that reinterpreted songs by One Direction, Shawn Mendes, and DNCE. During the 2015 trek alongside the Vamps, a sizable segment of that group’s youthful audience embraced them and began tracking their activities on social platforms. After signing with the Vamps’ own Steady Records and subsequently with Capitol, the band issued multiple singles that were later compiled on the 2017 debut album Young Love.
