Canadian producer and rapper Tiagz built his initial following by methodically posting tracks that crossed multiple genres across assorted social platforms. Once that online foundation was firmly in place, he entered a deal with Epic Records to issue his 2020 EP They Call Me Tiago on a wider commercial scale.

Born Tiago Garcia-Arenas in Ottawa in 1997, he spent part of his early life in Belgium and devoted much of his childhood to dance. In 2017 he started producing music, instructing himself in beat construction while trying out songwriting across an array of styles. Most of his output reached listeners through social media, including stark trap numbers such as the early single "Don't Text Me" as well as material that fused Latin and pop elements. Over the ensuing years he issued dozens of tracks before achieving wider attention with "My Heart Went Oops" and "They Call Me Tiago (Her Name Is Margo)." Those releases accumulated tens of millions of streams, prompting both a recording contract with Epic and a publishing agreement with Sony. Issued in May 2020, They Call Me Tiago represented the first substantial gathering of his material.
