Tito Double P has established himself as a top-charting and commercially dominant force in musica mexicana as both performer and tunesmith. Although his style sits firmly in the present day, his compositions fuse corrido, dembow, reggaeton, ranchera, and mariachi traditions with forward-thinking studio techniques. He derived his stage name from cousin Peso Pluma’s Double P imprint, for which he has supplied multiple successes such as “El Belicon” and “La People II.” His first official release, “Dembow Bélico,” earned six-times platinum status, while follow-up singles “Linda,” a collaboration with Netón Vega, and “Primo,” recorded with Natanael Cano, both registered on major charts. In August 2024 he issued his star-laden debut album, Incómodo.

Roberto Laija entered the world in Nayarit, Mexico, immediately southeast of Culiacán, Sinaloa, the city where he grew up. From an early age he composed rhymes, then taught himself guitar during his teenage years and high-school period. The initial track he completed was a corrido written for a friend; pleased with the result, he kept writing, eventually posting homemade performance clips on social platforms. Among the earliest viewers deeply moved by the footage was his cousin, Peso Pluma.

Pluma, himself a songwriter seeking material for a recording career, contacted Tito and traveled to Culiacán to review new corridos. After asking Tito to perform “El Belicon,” he instantly embraced the piece and they captured it that same afternoon. The song entered the Hot Latin Songs chart in April 2022. Tito dismissed the achievement as beginner’s luck and continued supplying Pluma with additional material, yet the subsequent successes “Siempre Pendientes,” “El Gavilán,” and “PRC” ultimately convinced him that songwriting constituted his true calling.

Spurred by Pluma and fellow artists Luis R. Conriquez and Natanael Cano, Tito launched a solo path under the Double P banner. He had been slated to appear on Pluma’s Génesis album with “Gavilán II” and “La People,” yet an early version of “Dembow Bélico” surfaced on TikTok and spread rapidly. Issued as a finished single in June 2023 with assistance from Conriquez and Joel De La P, the track reached number 15 in Mexico and number 35 on the U.S. Hot Latin Songs chart while attaining six-times platinum certification. A further release, “Sin Tanto Royo,” surfaced on Conriquez’s Corridos Bélicos, Vol. IV and peaked at number 35 on the U.S. Hot Latin Songs tally.

In March 2024 the track “La People II,” credited to Pluma, Tito, and Joel De La P, appeared on the Exodo album, climbed to number 69 on the Hot 100, and secured number-two placement on Hot Latin Songs together with number four on Mexico’s pop charts. The following May, “Linda,” a duet with Netón Vega, attained number 18 domestically and number 14 on the U.S. Latin chart. July brought the charting single “Primo,” again featuring Cano.

Incómodo, Tito’s first full-length project, arrived that August. Its twenty-one selections blend corridos and rancheras with reggaeton and dembow. Among the numerous contributors were Eslabon Armado, Cano, Conriquez, Gabito Ballesteros, Grupo Frontera, Junior H, and Pluma. The set elicited an immediate and powerful reaction stateside, rising to number 20 on the Billboard 200 while claiming the number-two slot on both Top Latin Albums and the Mexican Regional chart.
