Voodoo Six, the London-based hard rock outfit, originated in summer 2003 when bassist Tony Newton and guitarist Richie Faulkner formed the project after Newton completed a short production stint in Los Angeles. Once Newton returned to England, the duo recruited drummer Dave "Grav" Cavill, vocalist Henry Rundell, and second guitarist Matt Pearce to complete the lineup. The band soon began working the club circuit and earned a prestigious 2005 support slot alongside Iron Maiden at London's Hammersmith Apollo. The next year they performed at multiple major European festivals, creating anticipation for the August arrival of their debut album Feed My Soul on White Knuckle/Filthy Lucre Recordings. That release was heralded by the early-summer single "Crawl," around the same time critics began likening Voodoo Six's sound to Audioslave, Guns N' Roses, and Alice in Chains.
