Dan Keyes fronts the dance-rock group Young Love after serving as lead singer for the post-grunge outfit Recover between 2001 and 2004. Three albums later with the Austin-based band, he left Texas for New York City to pursue different surroundings and a fresh creative tempo. Less than a year afterward he had assembled a large collection of songs that aligned more closely with Bloc Party and Action Action than with Recover’s aggressive approach. Young Love therefore took shape, landing a contract with Island Def Jam by late 2005.

Supported by a small circle of additional players, Keyes began trying out the new songs at Lower East Side venues in summer 2006. Concerts with Head Automatica further sharpened his rhythmic, dancefloor-focused material for receptive crowds. “Discotech” appeared that October as an early single from the band’s first album, and the complete Too Young to Fight It arrived in January 2007. Two years after that Keyes issued One of Us, personally handling most of the instrumental parts.
