An indie rock quartet fusing propulsive dance-rock grooves with richly textured, introspective post-punk tendencies, Yung operates under the leadership of vocalist and songwriter Mikkel Holm Silkjær. The Danish outfit unveiled its first full-length album for international audiences, Youthful Dream, in 2016.

Originally from Aarhus, Denmark, Holm grew up surrounded by music through his family, with his father playing in Studson, an uncle running a record shop, and his mother working with area performance spaces. He took up guitar at age ten, later rejecting music briefly during adolescence in a rebellious phase before returning to create original material and recognizing his inherited dedication to the art form. At sixteen he fronted his initial group, the Danish hardcore band Urban Achievers. Discovery of Holm’s demos by his father on a laptop inadvertently launched Yung, as the melodic tracks stood apart from his existing endeavors and required a separate outlet.

To bring Yung onstage, Holm recruited drummer Frederik Nybo Veile and bassist Tobias Guldberg Tarp, both previously active in Snarehats, before adding guitarist Emil Zethsen. Their first album, Falter, saw only Danish distribution until it was condensed into the EP Alter for worldwide release in 2015. That September they issued a follow-up EP titled These Thoughts Are Like Mandatory Chores, which preceded the official international debut Youthful Dream in 2016 on Fat Possum in the U.K. and Tough Love Records in North America.

Following a shift to the Stockholm-based PNKSLM imprint, Yung issued the 7" single pairing “Progress” with “New Fast Song” in September 2020. The subsequent full-length Ongoing Dispute appeared on PNKSLM the next January.
