Biography
Contemporary gospel vocalist Benita Washington trained in voice performance at the University of Alabama and first drew widespread attention by claiming victory in the Gospel Music Channel’s inaugural Gospel Dream contest. Following appearances and studio work alongside CeCe Winans, she issued her debut solo album Hold On in 2004, which climbed to number six on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums tally and also registered on the magazine’s Independent Albums chart. Washington later assumed the post of praise-and-worship director, subsequently advancing to general overseer of music and worship arts, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. She maintained a steady recording schedule with Renaissance in 2007 and The Word Remains in 2010 before shifting focus to mentoring worship leaders and their teams. Additional credits include contributions to further Winans projects as well as L. Spenser Smith’s Unstoppable and Jill Scott’s Woman.
